The remains of Alhaji Ademola Fashola, the father of Lagos state governor, Raji Fashola, who died in the early hours of yesterday morning, was laid to rest this afternoon at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Al Qaeda threat prompts U.S. to close 22 embassies

 


















Fears that al Qaeda may launch attacks in the Middle East, North Africa and beyond in the coming days prompted the United States to close 22 embassies and consulates for a day, Sunday , an unprecedented move.
The closures Sunday stretch across a swath of North Africa and the Middle East, from Mauritania to Oman.
Bangladesh and Afghanistan, both majority Muslim nations, also are affected, CNN reports.
Normally, Sunday is the start of the work week in those countries.
The shutdowns could extend beyond Sunday, a senior State Department official said.
A U.S. global travel alert is also in place.
Of particular concern is Yemen, where the government is “on high alert against possible attacks in the days to come,” said a senior U.S. security official.
On Saturday, the security around the U.S. embassy in Yemen was even tighter than last year when the embassy was raided by protesters. At least 12 tanks were stationed within 500 meters of the building.
Britain, France and Germany have said they, too, will close their embassies in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on Sunday and Monday for security reasons. No other embassies are affected, they said.
The U.S. government’s actions are in response to growing intelligence that shows a potential for attacks in Yemen and elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa, said U.S. officials who spoke to CNN on condition of not being identified.

APGA suspends Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) yesterday suspended Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State after accusing him of being involved in anti-party activities. The party voted to remove Okorocha at an emergency National Executive Council meeting which held in Abuja yesterday afternoon following Okorocha's recent dissolution of his cabinet and alleged membership of the opposition coalition, All Progressives Congress (APC).

APGA is accusing him of dissolving his cabinet so he could include more members of the newly registered political party, APC, in his government. 

“The NEC unanimously resolved to suspend, with immediate effect, the Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okoroacha, from the party for gross anti-party activities, bordering on his involvement with the All Progressives Congress contrary to the clear provisions of the APGA constitution." The National Vice-Chairman of APGA (South-West), Tayo Sowunm said yesterday.

Mugabe re-elected Zimbabwe’s president for the 7th term

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe was on Saturday  officially returned for  a seventh term in office, amid claims of electoral fraud.

Mr Mugabe, 89, won 61% of the vote, against Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s 34%.

Mr Tsvangirai earlier said the elections for parliament and president were fraudulent and promised to take legal action.

He said his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) would no longer work with Mr Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party.

  The two parties have been working together in a coalition since the last election in 2008 sparked widespread violence.

 Mr Mugabe has been president since Zimbabwe won independence from the UK in 1980.

The European Union, which maintains sanctions on Mr Mugabe and his senior aides, said it was concerned about “alleged irregularities and reports of incomplete participation” in the election.

 The largest group of domestic monitors, the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN), had said problems with voter registration had left up to one million people unable to cast their ballots, most of them in MDC strongholds.

 However, the African Union and SADC broadly endorsed the election, saying it was free and peaceful.

On Saturday , one of the nine members of the election commission resigned over the way the election was conducted.

 Commissioner Mkhululi Nyathi said in his resignation letter: “While throughout the whole process I retained some measure of hope that the integrity of the whole process could be salvaged along the way, this was not to be.”

But those familiar with the producer say it’s no surprise he joined the Oyebanjos for what’s an important celebration. ‘Don Jazzy is part of the family. What has happened has happened, but Jazzy was quite close to the family and D’Banj’s mom was like the mother of Mohits‘, 

The former Mo'Hit Record bosses performed three of their hit songs at Dbanj's sister's wedding today. They performed Fall in Love, Endowed and my favorite, Suddenly. D'banj called Don Jazzy to join him on stage and he obliged. Heard they gave a good performance.D’banj who confessed he’s ‘extremely happy’, about the surprise reunion also presented the couple with a brand new Honda CRV

Mystery of enormous pentagram visible on Google earth

 This enormous pentagram etched into the ground next to a lake in an isolated corner of Kazakhstan, has had conspiracy theorists all of a flutter after it appeared on Google Earth.
The five-pointed star symbol which measures some 366 metres in diameter, is situated on the southern shore of the Upper Tobol Reservoir in the north of the country.
Pentagrams are commonly associated with devil-worship, but are also used in the Bahai religion and Chinese Taoism as well as neopaganists and followers of the Greek mathematician Pythagoras.While some have jumped to the conclusion that it is obviously the work of a secretive satanic cult, others believe it could be the remains of a Russian military base.

The satanic link is further strengthened by the fact the spot has been highlighted on Googlemaps by two users called 'Adam' and 'Lucifer', both of which are names associated with the devil.

The pentagram was used as a Christian symbol in ancient times to represent the five senses and to symbolise the five wounds of Christ. It was also believe to protect against demons.
 Neopagans, such as wiccans, use it as a symbol of faith similar to the Jewish Star of David. The circle is said to represent unity and protection.
Satanist pentagrams, are commonly drawn with two points up and the head of a goat inside and are referred to as the Sigil of Baphomet.
They are associated with fallen angels and are used as a sign of rebellion or religious identification.
The three downward points are supposed to represent the rejection of Trinity.
