Chris Brown Sentenced To 1,000 Hours Community Service

 A judge reinstated Chris Brown's revoked probation Friday and gave the singer a new sentence to perform 1,000 hours of community labor such as cleaning beaches or highways, removing graffiti or performing other chores assigned by the probation department.
Brown's current legal troubles are the latest repercussions of his arrest four years ago for assaulting his former girlfriend, Rihanna.
The popular R&B singer sat in a courtroom for nearly an hour as his lawyer, Mark Geragos, and a prosecutor shuttled in and out of the judge's chambers, with Geragos apparently seeking his client's approval for a plan to keep him from facing more serious consequences.
Superior Court Judge James Brandlin finally emerged and announced that an agreement had been reached.
Deputy District Attorney Mary Murray withdrew a request to rescind Brown's probation because of a hit-and-run charge that was dismissed in another court Thursday.
Brandlin then told Brown he must perform 1,000 hours of community labor with one of four public programs: California Department of Transportation highway cleanup, graffiti removal, beach cleanup or Probation Alternative Work Services.
Brown, 24, didn't speak during Friday's hearing, other than to agree to the deal worked out while he waited in the courtroom with his mother and two other people.
The singer has been in and out of court since pleading guilty to the 2009 assault on Rihanna. Besides making reports on fulfilling the requirements of an earlier order for community labor, he has had subsequent run-ins with the law for assault and traffic accidents.
The work that Brown did previously does not apply to the new sentence, said district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison. Brown has a year to perform the work and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20 for a progress report.

Brown, who won a Grammy in 2011 for Best R&B Album with "F.A.M.E.," could ask the court to end his probation when he completes the community labor, but the final decision on the length of probation will be up to a judge.

Mandela Challenge: Nigeria defeats South Africa 2-0

A brace by Uche Nwofor, a second half substitute, ensured the Super Eagles romped to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa  in an international friendly tagged The Mandela Challenge  at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The African champions battled to a scoreless first half after  series of missed opportunities from both sides. After early raids of the South African vital area, the Eagles midfield showed signs of weariness and their hosts took over, initiating series of attacks. But the Eagles defence refused to yield. Although the hosts could not get a goal, they ended the first half on a high.

The Eagles began the second half with more purpose launching early raids in their opponents’ half. Their efforts paid off in the 49th minute when Uche Nwafor who replaced Shola Ameobi put the Eagles ahead. Nwofor received a short pass in the middle,  he scored with his back heel. It was a tremendous effort and the goal was a world class one.

The goal gave the Eagles a psychological edge over their hosts and they totally took control of proceedings and in the 68th minute, Nigeria cut open Bafana’s defence, Musa crossed to Nwofor, who taps it into an empty net for his second goal.
Undaunted the Bafana attack led by the irrepressible Tshabalala made several dangerous moves in the Nigerian vital area but poor finishing robbed them of at least a goal..

South Africa vs Nigeria :Your predictions?

Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles will lock horns in the 19th Edition of the Nelson Mandela Challenge which will be played 7:15 PM (Nigerian time) this evening.
  Nigeria claimed their third continental title earlier this year, defeating Burkina Faso in the AFCON final at FNB Stadium. Returning the team to the scene of their recent triumph will bring back good memories for coach Stephen Keshi. The Eagles also have predominantly good memories of playing against Bafana Bafana, with the West Africans very much the dominant team in the rivalry. In seven meetings of the sides down the years, they boast five wins compared to just one for SA.
However, the good news for Igesund and his side is that Bafana’s lone win against Nigeria was in the Nelson Mandela Challenge back in 2004. On that occasion, South Africa won 2-1 in Johannesburg.
It is the second successive year in which Bafana are taking on the reigning African champions for the Mandela Challenge; last year they lost 1-0 to Zambia at FNB Stadium, with Collins Mbesuma scoring the only goal.
Overall, Bafana have seven wins, four draws and seven losses in 18 previous Mandela Challenge matches. Their last win was over Norway (2-1) in the 2009 edition.

Gov Fashola orders re-opening of Ex-Gov Orji Uzor Kalu's House at Ikoyi

The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a misleading claim by a businessman, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu that his Ikoyi home has been sealed off following a threat to sue the Lagos State Government over an unrelated matter.We wish to state, for the avoidance of doubt, that nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu’s property in Park View Estate, Ikoyi was distrained pursuant to Section 40 of the Revenue Administration Law of Lagos State for failure to pay the statutory annual land use charge despite three separate notices delivered to the said property.

As a government driven by law and process, the Lagos State Government will ordinarily expect all law abiding residents to discharge their responsibilities to the state.

  If, in spite of failing to do so, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu wants to give ethnic colouration to a routine performance of its duties by an agency of the state government, which in this case is the Land Use Charge Office, under the Ministry of Finance, he is welcome to do so.

  However it should be noted that when the issue was brought to the attention of the Governor, Tuesday evening, he directed the agency to unseal the property and that an additional 14 days grace period be given to Mr. Kalu to pay the said charge.

  It should be emphasised that notices like these are served on defaulting property owners on a regular basis who either comply or contact the Agency to raise any objections they might have to such notice. Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, like every other citizen, must fulfil his obligation to the State.

- Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala says: FG can't meet ASUU's N92b demand'

Minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said yesterday during the opening of the two-day meeting of Commissioners of Finance and Accountants-General of States, that the federal government can't meet the N92billion being demanded by ASUU.

 Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said

“At present, ASUU wants the Federal Government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances, when the resources are not there, and when we are working to integrate past increases in pensions. We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no work. Since I assumed office, the share of recurrent expenditure in our total budgets had increased astronomically. In fact, recurrent expenditure accounted for about 77.2 per cent of the federal budget and we are now working to re-balance this ratio.
The country is still suffering from the effect of the 2010 increase in salary. Do we want to get to a stage in this country that all the money we earn is used to pay salaries and allowances? If the demands of the university lecturers are met and we continue to pay them salaries and allowances, we will not be able to provide infrastructure in the universities.”
