The moment a 40kg meteor hit the moon

                        An telescope monitoring the moon has captured the moment a 40kg rock slammed into the lunar surface creating a bright flash of light.
The explosion on March 17 was the biggest seen since NASA began watching the moon for meteoroid impacts about eight years ago. So far, more than 300 strikes have been recorded.
'It exploded in a flash nearly 10 times as bright as anything we've ever seen before,' Bill Cooke, with NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, said in a statement.

Big Brother back on TV :

 BIG Brother fanatics will be pleased to know their favourite show will be back on screen on May26. DStv channels 197 and 198 will be the home of the reality show for 91 days and will see 28 contestants compete for $300000 (about R2775000).
Season 8 of Big Brother Africa has been named The Chase and will see the contestants from 14 countries competing against each other under Biggies' watchful eye.
Nigerian TV and radio personality IK Osakioduwa will be back as the host but the contestants will only be announced when the show starts.
South Africa's Keagan Petersen won the last edition of Big Brother Africa and the show not only made him a millionaire but also a household name.
"This season audiences can expect a show encompassing suspense, emotions, drama, fun, excitement and quite possibly, as we have seen in previous seasons, a little romance," said M-Met Africa managing director Biola Alabi.

Wizkid wins African Artist of the Year

                           In the just concluded Ghana Music Awards, Wizkid fell giants; beating super hot artists P-Square, Iyanya, Davido, Flavour  and D-Banj to win the African Artist of the Year award.
Star Boy Wizzy was present to receive his award too, the young hit maker had traveled to Ghana along with his team – EME execs Banky W, Tunde Demuren, Star Boy Entertainment manager Godwin Tom, producer Maleek Berry and official EME DJ, DJ Xclusive.

Wizkid posted the picture of the award on his Instagram profile.

R2Bees were the men for the night, with the duo racking up 5 awards, including Ghanaian artiste of the year.

The awards were hosted by Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) and songstress Eazzy, with performances by E.L., Banky W, Fuse ODG, and many more.

Jay Z coming to Nigeria :

America’s music superstar, Shawn Carter, a.k.a, Jay Z will be storming Nigeria as part of his African tour come October, this year.

Married to Beyonce Knowles who is one of the highest earning musicians in the world, Jay Z  reportedly announced his world tour last Thursday, and the tour will include performances in seven African cities, including Lagos.

The tour  is expected to take off on Monday, September 9 in Poland, with performances in Accra, Lagos, Cape Town, Luanda, Durban, Johannesburg and Dar Es Salaam. His highly anticipated performance in Lagos is scheduled to hold on October 9, at Ocean View restaurant, Victoria Island.

In 2006, he and his wife, Beyonce, were hosted by the former Governor of Kwara state; Bukola Saraki, who named a street after the American rapper in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital. Jay Z was also part of the ThisDay Music festival with a host of other global music icons that  stormed Lagos to be part of the event

WAR AGAINST TERROR: Over 20 Boko Haram Members Killed so far

At least 20 insurgents were killed Friday as Nigeria’s military carried out an aerial bombardment of suspected militant Islamist camps in the country’s northeast, a Defence Ministry spokesman told the CNN.
The raid by Nigerian Air Force jets and attack helicopters is part of what the military says is a “massive deployment” of Nigerian forces this week to tackle insurgent groups, including Boko Haram.
“Our military has overrun a number of the militants’ camps in north and central Borno state,” said defence spokesman Brig. Gen. Chris Olukolade.“Within those insurgents’ camps, we discovered that they have been storing sophisticated, high-calibre weapons including anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons.”

Asked if the military had inflicted any casualties on the insurgents, Olukolade said, “definitely so. Conservatively speaking, over 20 dead so far.”

Members of the armed forces have suffered only minor injuries, according to Olukolade.
“The operation continues, we are injecting even more troops and resources into those areas,” he added.
The military operation was announced Wednesday, a day after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
The president blamed “terrorists” aimed at “rebellion” who have caused “fear among our citizens and a near breakdown of law and order in parts of the country.”
He also noted a rise of insurgent violence in eight other states, including Nasarawa, where scores of police officers were killed last week.
“Insurgents and terrorists,” including Boko Haram, are trying to destabilise Nigeria, Jonathan said.
“The military operation will focus on tracking down criminal elements within the vicinity of border communities prone to terrorist activities,” Olukolade said Wednesday. He did not confirm the number of troops deployed or which units are involved in the military operation.
Much violence over recent years has been blamed on Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is sacrilege.”
According to Human Rights Watch, the group has killed more than 2,800 people in an escalating campaign to impose strict Islamic law on largely Muslim northern Nigeria.
Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country, with a population of nearly 175 million according to the CIA World Factbook, and is the political and economic powerhouse of West Africa.
