A 21-year-old man burns self to death in Taraba after disagreement with father

A 21-year-old man, Mansur Tanko, on Friday, burnt himself to death in Jalingo, after a disagreement with his father, Tanko Mijinyawa, over marriage.
The Taraba Police Public Relations Officer, Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the incident and said the Jalingo Division of the police had commenced investigation into the matter.

Tanko, according to a witness, Jibrin Bala, set himself ablaze because his family refused to approve his wedding with a girl, Blessing. The witness told sympathisers that Tanko introduced Blessing to his father as his proposed wife, but the father kicked against the union, describing it as a bad choice. Bala said efforts by the father to convince his son to look for another girl failed, as he insisted that he could not survive without Blessing. The witness added that Tanko suddenly left his father and went to a corner in the compound, where he poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze. "When we suddenly saw fire, everybody ran toward the corner of the compound, only to see Tanko burning.    

"The father and other people in the compound tried to rescue Tanko from the fire, but failed as the flame was much and we could not move near," he said. 

  Meanwhile, he said, Tanko's father is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, for injuries sustained while trying to rescue the son from the fire.  NAN

As you know ... Maria filed for divorce in July, 2011, after finding out her hubby had been banging the maid and produced a son.
Sources familiar with Arnold's situation tell TMZ ... there's no prenup so under California law it's pretty simple -- 50/50.  And our sources say there's no real issue over custody of their only minor child.
So why, you ask, has this divorce dragged on 2 1/2 years?  We're told Arnold doesn't want to write a gargantuan check to Maria ... and we know how much -- and it hurts.
Sources tell us their net worth is around $400 million.  We're told Arnold knows Maria is entitled to half -- but knowing it and watching around $200 million leave your bank account are 2 very different things.
                                          As for the second reason Arnold's in no hurry ... we're told he's getting pretty serious with his girlfriend,   physical therapist Heather Milligan.  If Arnold gets divorced, the pressure's on for him to pop the question ... and Arnold's not necessarily a one woman kind of guy.

Pastor Sign Fireman has been released on bail four days after being arrested and detained by the Nigerian Police over the alleged ritual murder of a 12 year old girl after the girl's killer, 18 year old Ikechukwu claimed he killed her following instructions from the pastor.
Pastor Fireman was released on bail yesterday evening been January 10th after the police investigated further and found inconsistencies in his accusers account of what happened. 

Bill Gates, Obama, the Pope are the World's Most Admired People

The world's richest man and Microsoft chairman Bill Gates is the most admired person in the world, followed by US President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pope Francis and Indian cricket player Sachin Tendulkar, the London Times reports, citing a poll.

Gates scored highly in each of the 12 countries where YouGov conducted polling and was the most popular in China. Putin’s popularity among Russians helped him secure third place on the list, the newspaper reported.

YouGov surveyed 14,000 people in the U.K., France, Germany, Russia, the U.S., Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, India, China, Egypt, Nigeria and Brazil in the poll conducted for the Times, according to the newspaper.

Obasanjo sends letter to PDP withdrawing from party activities

All these drama with our politicians, leaders and political parties is becoming quite silly. They all just seem so confused. One of the founding members of the ruling party and former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo has sent a letter to the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, where he gave a notice of his withdrawal from activities of the party.

In the letter, Obasanjo said although he is still a card carrying member of the party, he will withdraw his activities with PDP at local, state, zonal and national level until a person he describes as a criminal wanted abroad to face criminal charges is removed as the party's South West zonal leader.

Obasanjo proceeded to add that he was forwarding with the letter, “recent documents” on the alleged activities of the person. The letter, dated January 7th, was obtained by Tribune.
